And Just Like That...

Dax is walking at 1 yr and 1 week. He's walking pretty good when he wants to. Though of course he's still a little clumsy.

Viva USA!

My brother and his lovely family has lived in Brazil since 2001. They are now living in the States. It's so good to have them home!

Party Time

August 1, 2009

We had initially planned to have Dax's 1st B-day celebration at Burchfield Campground (Lock 17) on the Big Warrior River but scheduling problems changed our mind at the last minute and we decided to have his birthday party at our house. I'm so glad we did. Especially since it had rained pretty long and hard all week long.

I was afraid that all the games, BBQ and etc. we had planned for the big kids (there were a lot) at Dax's Birthday Party would get rained out. In case it did we could move the party inside and stay dry.

Even though I planned on keeping his B-day party very simple I did throw together one game for the big kids to play in case that happened. I picked a "pin the tail on the donkey" game but since Dax's B-day party was frog themed I changed it to "Feed the frog." Same idea as pin the tail on the donkey, except for a tail I cut out flies to stick in the frogs mouth. I got the idea from internet.

I also bought some side walk chalk so they could color on the patio since there's a roof over it.

Turns out we got a beautiful sunshiny day so the big kids did actually get to do all the things I had planned for them such as water balloons, bobbing for apples, and playing on the slip-n-slide (much better than the ones we had growing up) in addition to the "feed the frog" game I drew and cut out for them. Everyone was able to eat their BBQ outside and later homemade ice cream too.

It was GREAT. Especially the water balloons. Clint and I never got a chance to fill all of them up the night before so we just had to fill them up as we go. A couple of them got thrown at me since the kiddies were standing beside me waiting for me to fill up and tie another one. It actually felt good though since it was hot. I got the ultimate revenge at the end though since I was holding the hose pipe.

Still haven't gotten the pics from Dax's Grandmother yet. But I'll post them later when I do get them.

Claire, Isaac and Hannah later got in the frog pool behind Clint's mom and Ashton. Isaac's diaper was so droopy from all the water it was hilarious to watch him walk around in it.

I had planned on making Dax's cake, but with the constant migraines I kept getting before his party, I never got the time. This frog cupcake-cake saved the day, plus it was VERY cheap.

"Feed the Frog" game I made for the kids in case it rained. I had a blast making this game. I can't tell you how long it'd been since I'd played with construction paper and glue. I was a little worried about how it would look since I'd never made a gigantic frog (or gigantic anything from poster board) but the kids seemed to really enjoy it.

Clint's idea to add a UFO - because "it'd be cool to have one." He was very pleased to see I had made one and added it to the "Feed the Frog" game

The cake Jennifer and Brody (Jason's Nephew) made for Dax to play in after we sung happy Birthday to him. This cake was soooo good. It tasted way better than the one that came with the frog cupcake-cake.

This is Dax's Pattoned Jimmy H. look. So solemn - I can hear those wheels just a turnin. Like "why are these people all staring with goofy smiles on their faces and what are they singing about?" Cracks me up...

At first he wanted to just eat the candle or the chocolate at the bottom anyways. He kept dipping the candle in the cake.

After we got through playing "feed the frog" game, I took the frog off and let whatever kids were left sign it as a B-day card for Dax. I signed the names of those who'd already had to leave. One of which was Baby Caleb (like he could write anyway - he's 1.5 mos. younger than Dax). Dax was glad to see his future fishin buddy again.

Dax Gets To Steppin

Dax took his first unassisted steps tonight.

The first time he did it, I wasn't in the room, when Clint started hollering I came running just in time to see him do it again. After two go's, that was it; he was ready to start crawling again. However, my mom thought I should note it, and since I use this as his baby book, I'm doing just that so I can print it out and paste it in later.

It's odd for me to say this, but I'm actually hoping that Dax will wait a little while longer before he starts taking off regularly on two feet.

Why?

Because this little boy is still so clumsy... ;o) I'm not anxious for him to take a bunch of falls, because as it stands now (or doesn't stand very well) his noggin still out weighs the rest of his body times 2 it seems. I guess I'm just nervous he'll bump his head harder than he already does when he's in a perfectly safe contained area --- his crib.

This was just shortly after, but right before bed. Little man was tired!

A Day of Firsts

From Dax's 1st Birthday
It is so bittersweet that our little baby is turning into a little boy at the speed of light (it seems) right before our eyes.
On August 1, Dax turned 1. His 1st Birthday happened to fall on a Saturday, so that is when we had his Birthday Party. Friends and family helped this to be one of the most memorable fun filled days we've had as a family. Nothing beats the day he was born, but this one came close. Thank you all for being there. We are so blessed to have you all.
I will post the pics as soon as possible. My batteries went dead half way through so I'm having to gather pics taken from Dax's Grandmother and Jennifer's camera because they have the majority of them.
